“Jennifer’s specialist experience in psychiatric mental health brings great value to the care we provide to patients at Laurel Place,” said Kathy Sturm, Chief Nurse of the DMC.

“Our short-term behavioral health unit treats people who suffer from depression, anxiety, social withdrawal and a range of other conditions. Jennifer will provide in-depth psychiatric evaluations to assess and diagnose the patient’s condition, then determine the appropriate treatment interventions.

“I love the challenge of making a positive difference in someone’s life,” said Abel. “With the right medication and treatment, we see patients become themselves again. Patient successes inspire me to do what I do.

Abel has worked in various WV healthcare facilities including William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, United Hospital Center, and the Myers Clinic. In addition, she holds various certifications in advanced nursing practice, medication assistance therapy, basic resuscitation and DEA certification.

“Tackling a mental health stigma is deeply personal, so it’s important for patients to know that they can trust me and that they can feel secure in their care. Success might not come overnight, but I’m there for them throughout their recovery journey, ”added Abel.
