The mission of Inspira Health’s Cancer Service since the 1970s has been to reduce the burden of cancer in the South Jersey area by providing high quality care closer to home. That vision came to fruition when, in January 2020, the doors opened to a new 117,000 square foot facility, dubbed the Leading-Edge Cancer Center at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill. Bringing together experts and services to provide the greater county of Gloucester with comprehensive oncology services, the $47.8 million project brings together medical, radiation and surgical oncologists, along with a full range of support services.
Every design element is intended to provide comprehensive care focused on clinical excellence and high-quality patient experiences. For example, there is a multidisciplinary care suite, where patients can see more than one doctor during a single visit, and a support partnership with Gilda’s Club, which provides knowledge, action and support to patients and their families. There is also a pharmacy, rehabilitation program, and family waiting room, including a tech bar and restaurants adjacent to the hospital. While there are many surgical and X-ray spaces with the latest technology, this facility is so much more than that. The design creates a family environment for receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as spaces where patients can seek solitude or meet loved ones, fellow patients, or supportive friends to socialize and share experiences. Creating 439 construction jobs, the new facility has also created approximately 100 new permanent jobs in the community. It also created a new place where patience and families could find a sense of hope.
