Novant Health Inc. announced on Wednesday that it has begun the second phase of its $ 403.4 million expansion at Forsyth Medical Center.
The system unveiled the project on February 25, which plans to spend $ 222 million to build an intensive care tower slated to open in late 2024. The tower is Novant’s largest investment in its main Triad hospital.
The tower will be built on the site of the hospital’s Rehabilitation Center, which will be demolished in October. An inauguration ceremony will be scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.
Although the tower is slated to open 24 months after demolition is complete, interior renovations will continue until 2027.
The tower will have 60 intensive care beds and 36 intermediate beds, as well as an improved operating theater and support services. Phase two will also include an expanded preoperative and postoperative space and more natural light throughout the facility.
The first phase includes the renovation of the patient rooms and the improvement of the center for women and children which includes the labor and delivery unit. The other parts of the first phase include the renovation of the hospital’s kitchen and cafeteria and the installation of a new power plant.
