BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – The Shelby County Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster creates a brand new cardiovascular unit allowing them to provide advanced cardiac care to patients.
The unit will have 14 beds with six intensive care beds and eight emergency beds for patients facing serious life-threatening heart and vascular conditions.
The new unit is located in the central area of the hospital on the second floor with the intensive care unit integrated into the new unit.
This will increase flexibility in how they treat their heart patients.
They are looking to hire and expand their critical care and respite team.
All rooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology.
Colin Weaver, associate administrator of the medical center, said the huge need was based in the central Alabama community for their cardiovascular patients.
“It has increased over the last few years and certainly over the last decade. We want to make sure we provide the highest quality care to our community,” Weaver said.
The new unit is scheduled to open on December 1 and will exclude patients from mid-December to early January.
